On Qushuiting Street， the most famous couplet is attributed to Zheng Banqiao， a renowned calligrapher and painter of the Qing Dynasty and one of the “Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou.“ The couplet he inscribed for Qushuitingreads: “Three rafters of a thatched cottage， two small bridges; several weeping willows， a bend of flowing water.“ This couplet was written during Zheng Banqiao's tenure as the county magistrate of Wei County， Shandong. Although the original pavilion no longer exists， the couplet continues to be widely circulated and has become a cultural calling card for QushuitingStreet. With concise language， Zheng Banqiao sketches a tranquil and beautiful pastoral scene. The first line， “Three rafters of a thatched cottage， two small bridges，“ depicts the simple rural architecture， while the second line， “several weeping willows， a bend of flowing water，“ showcases the tranquility and harmony of nature. The entire couplet conveys a sense of detachment and contentment beyond material possessions.
